A Monochrome Check Dress + Tips On Keeping A Marriage Strong

As mentioned in my last post, I was at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel to celebrate my wedding anniversary recently. Apart from spending some time at the panoramic infinity pool, my husband and I also enjoyed a sumptuous high tea at the Sky At 57 restaurant. I wore a monochrome check dress with a unique one sleeve design on this occasion. A special dress for a special celebration with my special someone – my idea of a perfect day :)!

I don’t claim to be a relationship expert nor do I usually write about such topics, but I will like to end off today’s post by sharing a few points on how to keep a marriage strong based on my own experience –

Understand Each Other Differences Through Direct Methods of Communication

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Due to many inherent differences in perceptions and behaviors, I find that it is important to communicate as frequently as possible with my partner in a direct manner. The “beating around the bush” style of communication is not going to get any clear messages across and can result in serious misunderstandings and breakdown of the relationship in the long run.

Have Practical Expectations And Grow Together Through Life

None of us is perfect but we may have much higher expectations of our loved ones than we realize. Such expectations can kill a relationship by adding unnecessary stress and even fear, to your partner. A better approach is to understand that both partners in a marriage have their own strengths and weaknesses, even if one appears to be “stronger” than the other. Complementing each other’s characteristics and improving along the way is the key to a happy marriage.

Understand the “Love Language” of Your Partner and Keep the Romance Alive Through Little Acts of Love

Many women love romantic gestures but not all men are inclined to perform these acts of romance. If romantic acts are important to you, communicate this directly with your partner (as stated in point 1) and let him know how happy you will be if he can send you some flowers once in a while, as an example. Personally, I love flowers very much but my husband find such gifts impractical. However, he makes it up to me by giving me a massage every night or whenever I request him to do so. I see this as something very romantic and understand that this is his way of expressing love. Instead of dwelling over his unwillingness to give me flowers, I chose to accept the way he shows his affection.

Thank you for reading and hope you enjoy this post. See you!

Massage beats flowers if you ask me;)…
My husband is more than willing to give me a massage but he is so terrible at it that I have to pass on that opportunity….ha ha ha
I don’t expect flowers, I have roses in my garden, so I always have a fresh boquet in my house and feel no need for one to be bought to me. I’m not a type for typical romantic gestures, but I like unique ones….for example, it means a lot to me that my husband usually writes me a birthday card (we don’t exchange gifts but we do write cards)…So, we can all find a unique way to be romantic, one that suits us best. Communication is surely important in a marriage. You and your husband make for a very handsome couple.

I must say you look fantastic in this monochrome outfit! so stunning!

I love your outfit. Even though it’s not symmetrical it is balanced. You can tell the designer put a lot thought into it.

Happy Anniversary! I definitely agree with communicating directly. I sometimes find myself wanting to beat around the bush and then I remind myself of this. We’re 5 years into our marriage and communication is definitely the glue.
